Chapter 11

Leo wielded the weapon and approached Tarantulia with determination.

‘Can he handle a solo battle with a different weapon?’

Chelsea, who was preparing to magically assist Leo from afar, looked worried.

Even from Chelsea’s viewpoint, Leo’s swordsmanship was amazing.

But would the situation change if he weren’t using a sword?

‘I’d rather he just borrow someone else’s sword.’

Chelsea was stressed.

Whooom, whooom, whooom

Leo rolled his fingers to rotate his ax as he advanced towards Tarantulia.

Despite the weapon’s weight, it spun around and around.

This kind of weight would be nearly impossible for anyone Leo’s age to handle without Aura.’

However, it was not an obstacle for Leo, who had been training beyond the limits of his body since he was a child.

No, rather, the weight of this impromptu weapon had become one of its greatest advantages for Leo.

Whooom, whooom, whooom

As Leo closed in on Tarantulia, he skillfully manipulated the ax, spinning it at a terrifying speed.

Tarantulia rushed in with her mouth wide open, ready to chomp down.

Thwack—!

With one hand, he swung the ax directly towards Tarantulia’s head.

Thwack—! Shoooooom!

Screeeeeeeeee!

The impact of the ax striking Tarantulia’s head was powerful.

The force momentarily stunned everyone close enough to witness the attack.

Leo quickly retrieved the weapon and leapt into the air, delivering another blow to Tarantulia’s back with the ax.

More ear-splitting screams.

Crack! Screeeeeeeeeeee!

Tarantulia’s front legs scrambled in an attempt to knock away her new opponent.

Screeeeeeeeeeee!

Leo leapt to quickly avoid her attack.

He took a light step back onto the ground.

‘I can’t do this for long.’

He quickly assessed the weapon’s condition.

Despite the successful strike, the ax had sustained damage after just one attack.

Typically, this wouldn’t be much of an issue, since Aura was able to preserve a weapon’s durability.

“Chelsea!” Leo called out, seeking assistance.

“Wh-What is it?”

“Use your wind magic to get me another weapon!” Leo shouted, evading Tarantulia’s attacks.

“Wind can’t be controlled so delicately, and especially not in such a dire situation! You could get hurt!”

“I can catch it safely! Just do it!”

“Wh-what weapon do you want?”

“Anything is fine! Hurry!”

At Leo’s urging, Chelsea complied, using wind magic to send some chunks of metal his way.

Whoosh

A sharp scimitar and a heavy bastard sword flew towards Leo.

“Use whichever you want!”

Clink!

The ax head, which had only just struck Tarantulia in the head, shattered.

Leo threw back the handle and stepped back and reached for his new weapons.

‘From that sound… is it a scimitar and a bastard sword?’

From the sound of the weapons hurtling through the air alone, he had accurately identified the type of weapons he was being given.

Screeeeeeeech

Tarantulia made a stab at Leo with both front legs.

Leo evaded, spinning as he jumped through the air.

Thwack! Thwack! Right then, Leo deftly caught both swords.

With the scimitar in his left hand and bastard sword in his right, he prepared for the next round of combat with Tarantulia.

Booooooom

A great force surged through his body.

“Cough.”

Leo, enduring the impact with a grunt, rebounded.

Wooooosh

Screeeeeech!

Without hesitation, in one swift motion, he attacked.

Tarantulia’s defense was not particularly strong on its own.

Even without the use of Aura, her limbs wouldn’t be impossible to sever with some force.

Although the attacks of other applicants had failed, Leo understood why:

The monster’s rapid recovery rate outpaced the rate of the inflicted wounds.

‘Was the ring of life always this annoying to deal with?’

Laughing to himself, Leo quickly picked up the pace.

With each step, Leo pushed his body to the limit, his movements guided solely by his own will and experience.

Leo’s body was but a vessel for Kyle’s will.

Though it didn’t use Aura, Leo’s movement was a novelty in and of itself.

The other candidates watched, stunned.

Ax first.

Then the scimitar and bastard sword.

Then, a claymore.

Next, a dagger.

A longsword, a warhammer, and then another battle ax.

Each time his weapon shattered, Leo inherited the weapons of other fallen candidates.

And he handled each weapon with remarkable dexterity and adaptability.

His fluidity in handling each weapon was astounding.

It was almost as if he could wield any weapon in the world with ease.

“He’s our age at the most. How is it possible to battle with such a variety of weapons?”

“What the hell is he?”

The other candidates’ eyes were wide open, marveling at the flying knight.

Even Chelsea was awestruck by his rapid and relentless combat prowess.

She had initially considered using magic to assist Leo.

But it had become clear that Leo could handle his own.

Despite her initial concerns, Chelsea found herself feeling reassured by Leo’s confidence and skill in facing the terrifying monster alone.

He was a great hero in the making.

[The Brave]

The power of the man who has led impossible battles to victory on the front lines with Arron time and time again.

It was impossible to take your eyes away.

Even in a battle where a small mistake could lead to death, Leo was unstoppable.

Rather, his mind felt at ease.

‘I was worried about how I would fare after fifteen years, but this feeling is the same as always.’

He couldn’t breathe.

Tarantulia faced his relentless pressure.

Each strike tore flesh.

No matter how much blood he drew, he didn’t stop.

‘I have to keep going! Keep pushing!’

Every moment of his onslaught felt reminiscent of a trial from his past.

‘If I can’t stop a creature like this, they’ll all mock me in the underworld!’

This couldn’t even be considered a challenge in comparison.

Stab, stab, slash!

Clink!

The crack echoed as the longsword reached its limit.

Dozens of weapons had succumbed to his barbaric tactics within just five minutes.

Just as Leo sought the next weapon…

“Leo! I’m ready!” Celia cried.

Leo laughed.

“Ha…”

With a sigh, he leapt away from Tarantulia.

Celia unleashed a fiery storm to aid Leo.

Sizzle, roooooooar!

As if to replace his own fury.

A powerful wind raged between them and their arachnid foe, holding back the heat.

“Die, you little bug!”

Screeeeeeeeech!

The swing of her sword relieved the air of her scorching storm.

The intense heat had even further destroyed Tarantulia’s body.

She struggled, wriggling her scorched limbs on the steaming earth below.

The powers granted by the ring of life were to allow the spider infinite life.

Yet, their combined destructive power exceeded its promises of infinite recovery.

Blaze, flicker flicker, blaze

As the flame died down, Tarantulia’s corpse was reduced to ashes.

Clink

In her wake, a golden ring clattered to the ground.

[[Albi’s World: Boss — Wild Forest has been defeated.]]

A message flashed before them.

Celia slumped, relieved.

“I-It’s finally over.”

She breathed a deep sigh, glancing at Leo.

Leo stood, gasping for breath, battered and covered in wounds, but triumphant.

‘I really kept that monster away for five minutes.’

It was phenomenal.

Despite numerous challenges, his confidence remained unwavering.

Struggling to rise, Celia approached Leo with a smile.

“Leo! Well done…”

“That was amazing! You were like a hero straight out of a story!”

Chelsea joined Leo, ecstatically raising both hands to the sky as she jumped in delight.

“That’s right.”

“You know, I want to be a battle mage, so I need to hone my close combat skills. Will you train me when we get to Lumene?”

Chelsea, inspired by Leo’s battle during the test, eagerly discussed her aspirations.

Celia joined them.

“He’s not skilled enough to teach a Lewellin girl.”

“Why is a Zerdinger getting involved?” Chelsea questioned, sparking a minor argument.

Ignoring the commotion, Leo pressed on.

Though his body protested, he retrieved the ring Tarantulia had left behind.

A small golden light emanated from the ring.

Suddenly, a fairy appeared.

A familiar one.

Leo’s eyes widened in recognition.

It was Sillyd, the successor to the fairy king.

He looked up towards Leo without a word.

“Hey… Sillyd. Do you remember me?” Leo’s voice trembled.

It was his first time seeing Sillyd since Luna’s passing.

Leo awaited Sillyd’s response.

“…”

However, Sillyd remained silent.

Leo chuckled to himself, realizing the nature of this Hero’s World.

The Sillyd appearing now was merely an impostor.

‘Looks like you’ve safely ascended to become the fairy king.’

Albi likely struck a deal with Sillyd, being gifted his magic eye in exchange for defeating Tarantulia and recovering the fairy king’s treasure.

Leo looked around.

Suddenly, cracks began to strew across the sky.

The Hero’s World was crumbling.

‘Well, it’s all over now.’

Leo took a deep breath.

With a blinding light, the world dissolved.

In that fleeting moment…

[Attack reward: Fairy King’s pledge]

“What?”

A reward previously unattainable was suddenly granted.

At the heart of the continent.

Lumeria City, the center of the world.

A city steeped in history for over 3000 years.

As well as the city housing Lumene.

An elderly man atop the city walls stroked his chin in contemplation.

“Well, it seems the examination in the western region has concluded.”

“I suppose Albi made it so.”

“He likes to get things over with quickly.”

The old man chuckled to himself.

Though well over a century old, his presence commanded attention.

Swordmaster Kalian Beidian.

A legendary sword-wielding hero.

The kind whose unbelievable talent furthered the world’s expectations of human limits.

“Let’s see… Hoooooo, that’s quite a lot!”

“Really? Albi allowed that! How many candidates passed?”

“Forty.”

“…”

Kalian’s nonchalant response left the woman stunned.

“Is that… a lot?”

“Indeed, it is. I anticipated around ten.”

Elena sighed, cradling her head in her hands.

Forty admissions in the western region alone.

While other regions admitted a hundred candidates, the west had only forty?

She could already hear the protests that would soon erupt across the western territories.

“Don’t fret too much. It’s better than ten, isn’t it?”

“That’s true. Much better than ten. Hahaha.”

The Principal of Lumene’s secretary, Elena, forced a laugh through gritted teeth.

“The top picks there were Celia and Abad. Who took the lead?”

“They tied.”

“A tie?”

“Yes, Celia and Abad are co-victors, They claim they couldn’t discern superiority from inferiority.”

“Let’s see…”

Elena’s eyes flashed.

“And, there’s one more.”

“Another one?”

“We have a recommendation for a freshman representative.”

“One of Albi’s candidates?”

Elena found it surprising that Albi, who typically held low opinions of others, would recommend a candidate to be the freshman representative.

“Is it Celia Zerdinger or Abad Lewellin?”

Typically, the top-scoring students were recommended for the role of freshman representative.

In response to Elena’s inquiry, Kalian replied with a smile.

“Not Celia or Abad. His name is Leo Plov.”

Looking at the report, Kalian chuckled to himself.

Name: Leo Plov (15)

Major: Knight Studies

Goal: Hero

‘I can’t believe that Albi has singled anyone out. I wonder what kind of student he is.’

With a stroke of his beard, Kalian mused on the surprising choice.
