Chapter 13
Two days later, in the morning.
Leo and Celia made their way to the dock by Lake Lumeria.
Passersby marveled at the duo in their Lumene uniforms.
“Ah, they’re Lumene’s newest class.”
“They look so fresh, don’t they?”
The street folk smiled and cheered them on.
A fruit vendor even tossed two apples their way.
Leo caught one and graciously thanked them.
“Thank you!”
“Study hard and stay spirited!”
Crunch!
Celia took a bite into her apple, then offered the other half to Leo.
“I’m alright.”
“Lumene must be so amazing. The people here are so kind to us just because of the uniform!”
“Because we’re the future.”
Heroes were adored by the masses.
And Lumene’s students were the next in line.
They followed in the footsteps of past heroes, ready to defend the world from any oncoming threats.
Thus, the public rallied behind these aspiring heroes.
“Tartaros may have been quiet lately, but we can’t let our guard down.”
Celia paused, lifting her chin defiantly.
“We can’t keep losing to Seiren forever!”
Humans and elves had a strained relationship.
So, the Elf Hero Military Academy, Seiren, and Lumene engaged in frequent, but friendly, matches to promote racial harmony.
Starting with quizzes and sports games, all the way up to full-on battles.
The historic “Lumeiren” competition had been a tradition for centuries, fostering goodwill between the races.
But as their school’s pride was on the line, students risked everything in these exchanges.
In recent years, Lumene had been falling behind Seiren.
“Just you wait. We’ll show Seiren what we’re made of!”
“Right, right. Let’s keep our spirits up.”
Leo, brimming with enthusiasm, cheered on Celia with a playful grin as he bit into his apple.
As they approached the dock, they spotted other freshmen.
Some flew on their canes, others rode summons.
One student was even sporting an array of weapons attached by different buckles and compartments onto his body.
“They’re probably anxious about standing out.”
Celia sighed at the sight.
Then, a boy with pale orange hair stepped in their path.
“Hey there! You two look like you’re ready to take on the world. Mind a brief chat?”
“Hello?”
“My name’s Carr Thomas, representing the Kingdom of Moira!”
“Well, what’s up?”
“Just a friendly gesture.”
Grinning, he smoothly handed over his business card to Leo and Celia.
“I’ve got everything from weapons to potions! If you need anything for your studies, don’t hesitate to drop by!”
With a wink, he dashed off towards another student, chuckling.
“Quite the characters around here.”
Celia, still baffled, held the business card.
“I’ll go greet some freshmen from our homeland.”
The Lordren Empire held sway over the western continental states.
As such, many Western students hailed from the Empire.
“You go. I’ll explore a bit.”
“Sure thing. Meet you back at the dock.”
As Celia departed, Leo strolled leisurely, observing the crowd.
The dock buzzed with family members and other well-wishers, not just freshmen.
The diverse mix of cultures brought a sense of nostalgia to Leo.
‘Reminds me of Guardsilon.’
A city renowned as the last line of defense in times of crisis.
It marked the starting point of Kyle’s counterattack against Erebos, led by Lysinas.
Lost in thought, Leo suddenly heard a sound.
Thump!
“Huh?”
A blonde girl, engrossed in her book, accidentally bumped into Leo.
“Oh, sorry. I wasn’t watching where I was going.”
“No worries.”
After apologizing, she resumed walking, eyes fixed on her book.
“Careful, you might bump into someone else…” Hmm?
Leo spotted a card on the ground.
It was a student ID card belonging to the girl he had just encountered, Chloe Mueller.
He looked around, trying to catch her, but Chloe had vanished into the crowd.
‘I’ll return this next time we meet.’
Since they were both freshmen, they were bound to cross paths again.
“I’ve got everything from weapons to potions! If you need anything for your studies, don’t hesitate to drop by! Here, take my card!”
The hawker Leo had seen earlier was now distributing business cards to other freshmen.
Spotting Leo, he approached with a smile.
“Fancy meeting you again!”
“How’s the marketing going?”
“Same old, same old. But the high-class ladies just do nothing but turn up their noses.”
“Lumene attracts more aristocrats than commoners, so I supposed most folks wouldn’t even give it a glance.”
“True, haha.”
Carr shrugged, his smile unwavering.
“Let me reintroduce myself, I’m Carr Thomas, fifteen years old!”
“I’m Leo Plov, from the Kingdom of Delad, also fifteen.”
“You’re from a royal line, huh?”
“Yep.”
“Surprising. My commoner status doesn’t bother you?”
Leo chuckled, finding the mini-businessman’s enthusiasm intriguing.
“Isn’t the Kingdom of Delad where that one really rigorous exam was? Passing that one is quite the feat!”
“It was no walk in the park.”
Leo and Carr kept talking.
Thanks to the marketer’s friendliness, they quickly bonded.
“What’s your major? My family’s been alchemists for generations! I’m aiming for the magic department.”
“I’m leaning towards magic as well.”
“Really? Then we’re destined to be close friends, Leo!” Carr beamed with joy.
Of course, Leo planned to study not only magic but also knight studies and summoning.
As they chatted, a massive ship emerged from the mist on Lake Lumeria.
It was the ship ferrying between Lumene and Lumeria.
“Woah! It’s enormous!” the self-starter exclaimed in awe.
Shortly after, a silver-haired man in uniform disembarked from the ship docked at the port.
“All freshmen, gather round!”
The freshmen bid farewell to their families and assembled before the man.
“Let’s do a headcount.”
Those emerging from behind the man used a magical device to check the students’ IDs.
Leo noticed a female student searching frantically and stuttering.
“Wait a minute…”
“Huh? Where are you going?”
Carr followed Leo’s lead.
Chloe, looking puzzled, was surprised to see Leo approach.
“Here.”
“What’s this?”
“You dropped it earlier.”
“Oh, thank you!”
Chloe’s face lit up as she took the student ID from Leo.
“You’re a lifesaver. I’m Chloe Mueller!”
“Chloe Mueller?”
Carl was taken aback.
“The Chloe Mueller, the captain from the Northern Exam?”
“Yes. And you?”
“I’m Leo Plov, and this is…”
“Carr Thomas! I’ve got everything from weapons to potions! If you need anything for your studies, don’t hesitate to drop by! Here, take my card!”
Carl handed Chloe his business card eagerly, darting off to attend to his business.
Receiving it, Chloe expressed interest.
“Do you run a supply store? Are you planning to focus on a support role?”
“Haha, you catch on quick. I’ve had my eye on support roles from the start.”
“I heard a bit about that from my seniors at the tower.”
In Lumene, all students were considered hero candidates.
But even within that population, some differences in aspirations were bound to exist.
Some people, while attending Lumene, felt they lacked talent in such a talent-heavy pool.
Thus, some gravitated towards support roles.
While heroes took the spotlight, supporters played crucial behind-the-scenes roles, providing combat assistance and supplies.
Many students aimed solely to become heroes, but Carr had chosen the support path early on.
“Because I barely passed the entrance exam, anyway.”
“I’d love your support and help in the future.”
“Oh wow! Making connections with one of the top students already? Lucky me!” Carr chuckled with delight.
“This feels like fate. Let’s be friends! We’re all majoring in magic!”
“Magic major?”
Chloe looked puzzled.
“Aren’t you majoring in magic too?”
“Yes.”
“You’re not in knight studies?”
Chloe had already noticed Leo’s powerful Aura, deducing that he, too, was at the top of the class.
“I plan to double major.”
“What? You’re a sorcerer too? That’s impressive!” Carr exclaimed.
Though rare, those with two fields of talents were known as dual-classes.
In fact, a significant number of dual-classes found their origins at Lumene.
Chloe seemed intrigued by Leo’s words.
Meanwhile, a faculty member approached, checking the students’ IDs.
After verifying the count, the counters shuffled away and the silver-haired man in uniform stepped forward.
“I’m Professor Ain Elandieu.”
“Professor Ain Elandieu? The Glacier Knight?”
“What? Professor Elandieu?”
“Can I have your autograph?”
“Settle down!”
Ain quieted the excited students.
“We’re headed off to Lumene. Everyone on board.”
“Yes, sir!”

Before the entrance ceremony, the freshmen enjoyed the view from the deck.
As expected of Lumene Academy, the deck was a luxury in itself.
The deck resembled an upper-class party.
Top chefs presented traditional dishes from various countries, delighting the freshmen’s senses.
Even Professor Ain even relaxed on the deck, sipping wine.
Attendants attended to students, while the aristocrats among them laughed and mingled.
“Lumene Academy truly stands out.”
“I’m excited for school life.”
The freshmen envisioned their upcoming experiences.
Leo frowned, sensing something amiss.
“Something’s not right.”
“What’s wrong?”
Carr, already stuffing himself with gourmet food, inquired curiously.
“It feels more like a social event than a hero academy’s ceremony.”
“I mean, we’re still waiting for the entrance ceremony to begin. Also, Leo, I gathered some intel.”
“Intel?”
“Yeah, look over there!”
Carr pointed to a large schoolboy with light brown skin, eating quietly on the other end of the deck.
“Walden Thaidin! I heard he’s the captain of the Southern exam, specializing in summoning!”
“You must be psychic.”
“Haha. not quite. I just did my homework.”
Leo had indeed noticed, though he didn’t feel the need to confirm it.
“And there’s Chen Xia, captain of the Eastern exam!”
A petite girl with black hair explored a plate of foreign cuisine with curiosity.
“I heard she was planning on doing knight studies, but ended up outperforming everyone in the exam.”
He playfully gestured towards another student.
“And that’s the Central region captain, Duran Moira, third prince of our kingdom, majoring in knight studies.”
The blond boy waved his wine glass, surrounded by admirers.
Carr turned, gesturing towards Leo’s side.
“And the Northern region captain.”
Still absorbed in her reading, Chloe indulged in a slice of cake.
“There are two captains from the West, the renowned Celia Zerdinger and Abad Lewellin.”
“Leo, is this where you’ve been all along?”
Celia approached just in time.
“Hey, Celia.”
“Celia? Wait, are you Celia Zerdinger?”
“That’s correct.”
“Leo, is the girl you were with Celia Zerdinger? That’s incredible.”
Carr grinned and extended a hand to Celia.
“I’ve introduced myself before. Carr Thomas!”
“Huh? You two got close. Celia Zerdinger.”
Taking Carl’s hand, Celia turned to Chloe.
“And who might you be?”
“I’m Chloe Muller.”
“Chloe Mueller, the Northern region captain?”
“That’s right.”
Chloe smiled confidently.
Celia, briefly intrigued, turned to Leo.
“What’s on your mind?”
“Just… The academy’s image is different from what I imagined.”
Lumene was known for selecting and training the best talents into heroes, with a tough reputation and high dropout rates.
Seeing such a lavish cruise left Leo puzzled.
“Why would Lumene pamper students like this before the entrance ceremony?”
“You’re just overthinking it.”
Celia seemed to agree with Carr.
Boooooooooom–!
The ship shook violently.
“W-What’s happening?”
Something emerged from the lake.
Kraaaaaaaaaaaghhhhh
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What is that!!”
“I-is that a kraken?”
“A kraken? What’s happening?”
The massive squid crashed onto the deck, sending the party into chaos.
Masses of students panicked.
“P-Professor Ain! Help us!”
A student rushed to Ain for assistance.
Professor Ain frowned at her.
“You want me to help? Why should I?”
