Chapter 28

Duran’s ball, wrapped in a layer of crackling lightning Aura, soared towards the net.

“Wind shield!”

Chelsea swiftly invoked a defensive spell to protect the goal.

A gust of wind formed a barrier inside the net on Class 5’s side.

Then, the ball, hurtling at high speed, slowed down abruptly.

But its momentum hadn’t just disappeared.

Rather, it had only stopped for a moment.

Chelsea was unable to fully contain the ball due to the layer of lightning Aura surrounding it.

Attempting to catch it prematurely would only result in it slipping through her defensive magic and into the net.

“What a futile effort!”

As Duran chuckled, Leo exclaimed, “Carr! Get ready!”

“Oh! Anything but cleaning bathrooms!”

Carr initiated a spell.

He specialized in earth properties sorcery.

Earth magic was perfect for defense and weight manipulation.

A subtle brown energy emanated from Carr’s body.

Leo, shielded by defensive magic, used gravity manipulation to lighten Carr’s weight, then launched him towards the net.

Carr was prepared to deflect the ball with his body.

Boom! Whoosh!

Carr’s body hurtled towards the net.

Thud! Thump!

Simultaneously, the ball breached Chelsea’s defensive magic.

Even faster than the ball, Carr reached the goal, propelled by Leo’s power.

“It’s useless! I’ll score with the ball!” Duran jeered.

Yet, just before impact, Carr increased his body’s weight to become as heavy as possible.

On top of that, Chelsea hastily cast a shield spell on Carr.

Thunk!

“Ack!”

Thwack!

Only Carr met the ball and found the net, bouncing back out.

Capturing the ball before it hit the ground would maintain their right to attack, but failure meant relinquishing it.

Thump, roll, roll, roll.

The ball rolled across the floor.

Thuuuuuit!

“Class 5, it’s your ball!”

“Wow! Amazing, Carr!”

“Your sacrifice for Class 5 won’t be forgotten!”

Cheers erupted from Class 5 as Leo, Chelsea, and Carr successfully defended the goal.

Carr smiled wistfully at his classmates, touched by their recognition but longing for their concern.

“I’m so sorry, Carr.”

“Carr, are you alright?”

“Leo, Chelsea, it’s all up to you now.”

Moved by Leo and Chelsea’s approach, Carr wiped away a single tear.

“That was incredible. What a strategy!”

Nella, attending to the injured, inquired with a grin.

“Our tactic: ‘Friend Shield.’ Leo devised it, anticipating the play.”

“Using a friend to secure victory. Clever move.”

Carr felt a lump in his throat.

Meanwhile, Eliana dribbled the ball, eyeing an opportunity for extra points.

Swish!

A swift maneuver from Class 1 snatched the ball from Eliana’s grasp.

“Oh! Impressive!”

“As expected, the successor to the Snake Spear!”

Class 1’s morale surged as they regained possession.

Eliana glanced between her empty hands and the captured ball, then lowered her head, leaning against Carl.

“Sorry, they got it back.”

“Avenge me!!!!!”

“Oh! What brings you here at this hour, Ain?”

“What else? I’m observing the combat studies class.”

Ain and Len crossed paths near the training grounds.

“Ah, I see. Celia, Duran, and Chen Xia are there right now! Must be curious as a major professor to see the new aces of the knights studies department in combat!”

“I’m interested in all the students, Len, not just those from one department, like you.”

“Hey, I’m here to watch them all, too.”

Professor Len shrugged as well.

The two were more than just colleagues; they had a complex relationship dating back to their school days at Lumene.

Even though they were now professors, their terrible dynamics remained unchanged.

Adding Professor Yura into the mix as well, the trio were a perfect representation of the inter-departmental tension, widely known among professors and students alike.

“By the way, I was surprised to hear some of these professors are teaching first years.”

“It’s the first time some of them are dealing with the underclassmen.”

“Remember when you were Sedgen’s first student? How was he then?”

“Same as he is now. He cared a lot for his students. But Harrid’s changed a lot since then.”

“Back in fifth-year, he was already dubbed the ‘wall of wailing’.”

Reminiscing, they entered the training grounds, surprised by what they saw.

“Bastera? In the first class?”

“Quite unexpected.”

The professors, realizing the first class’s intense activity, exchanged intrigued glances.

‘It’s 1-0 with five and a half minutes left.’

An unexpected outcome.

Class 1’s aces were on full display.

While unintentional, Class 1 boasted the highest average from the entrance exams.

Thus, it was a match between the top and bottom of the ranks.

Though the entrance exam results became less significant over time, the gap was clear now.

‘Leo, Chelsea, Eliana, Tide, and Nella… Class 5 has a number of aces, too, it seems.’

Ain looked intrigued.

“Interesting.”

Len admired as they watched the game.

“Leo seems like quite the natural leader.”

“Yes, I could tell since the entrance ceremony.”

Class 1 dominated in terms of individual prowess, while Class 5 emphasized teamwork.

And Leo was at the heart of it.

He was the one to adeptly counter Class 1’s attacks, anticipating their moves and reacting swiftly.

Len looked sad.

‘It’s terrible that he’s relying solely on Aura!’

It would’ve been nice to see him use his sorcery skills, but here, Leo relied solely on Aura.

To be fair, it was unavoidable.

Leo’s technique and theoretical interpretation was excellent, but his magic reserves were limited.

Thus, Aura had to be the primary force in the battle.

Len nervously glanced at Ain.

As expected, Ain was also keeping his eyes on Leo.

But unlike Len with his anxiety, Ain was watching the game with a satisfied grin.

Len muttered to himself, feeling frustrated.

‘Leo! Please incorporate some sorcery! For me!’

Anxious, Len continued to keep his eyes glued onto Leo.

Meanwhile, the game transitioned into the second half.

The exhaustion of a game of Bastera was immense, having required the participants to use all their abilities.

Though typically played for an hour, the first-years’ stamina now limited them to about 20 minutes.

Then came Celia’s formidable attack, shaking Class 5’s net.

“Celia! Amazing! I might fall for you!”

“Celia! You’re so cool!”

The Class 1 students cheered.

Celia scored after breaking through three defenders from Class 5.

“Is she some kind of monster?” Carr muttered, sickened after taking a direct hit from the ball and sliding onto the ground.

Cough, cough

But even Celia, exhausted from her effort, collapsed.

“I took down three, but I’m running out of steam! If we can stop this next attack too, we can turn the tide and win, so give it everything you’ve got!”

Struggling to even breathe, Celia urged her teammates.

Class 5’s morale plummeted once they lost their advantage, while Class 1’s soared.

Chloe glared at Class 5 from behind.

Chloe was undeniably the standout player of the game.

Though conceding an early goal, Chloe had thwarted Leo and Chelsea, the core of Class 5’s offense.

They had tried every method to break through, but Chloe stood firm.

Vowing to herself as she faced Leo’s impending attack, Chloe thought, ‘I won’t be defeated.’

After the first sorcery class, Chloe felt a little too conscious of Leo, even though she tried to say she didn’t care.

In all her time studying sorcery, she had never thought she was magically left behind by someone else.

She even thought herself to be superior to Abad, who was considered the strongest sorcerer among his peers, in her ability to interpret sorcery formulae.

And that was the case in practice, too.

A master of sorcery, considered the best of all time even in the northern sorcerers’ tower.

That was Chloe Mueller.

However, she had been left behind in the interpretation of sorcery from the very first class.

‘I’ll never again lose to Leo Plov.’

Chloe clenched her fist.

In the absence of Celia’s defense, there was a gap in Class 1’s formation.

“Attack! If we don’t score now, we’ll lose!” Eliana urged.

Chelsea positioned herself to mark Leo as Duran rushed in.

Meanwhile, other players attempted to isolate Leo and Chloe for a one-on-one confrontation.

With swift agility, Leo darted through the first half of the court toward the net.

With Celia’s mark gone and Duran tied up by Chelsea, no one seemed capable of stopping Leo now.

But the students of Class 1 believed in something.

Chloe stood firm in front of Leo.

“I won’t yield.”

“I’m sorry, but in a one-on-one situation, I think it’s worth trying to break through,” Leo replied nonchalantly.

Chloe smirked in response to Leo’s remark.

Leo’s eyes gleamed with determination.

Clink, crackle, clink, clink

In an instant, ice condensed in the air.

They formed a set of four ice sculptures perfectly resembling Chloe.

“No way! Ice sculpting! You’re using such advanced sorcery? You’re quite the talent!” Chelsea exclaimed, astonished.

“It’s not just an illusion!” Leo clarified, noting the magical complexity.

Magic circles surrounded each of the chunks of ice.

A feat only achievable by a real sorcerer.

“You’re this skilled at your age? You’re truly remarkable,” Leo praised.

Chloe’s expression shifted.

“Are you making fun of me?”

‘You’re the one who topped the Magical Theory Test!’

Chloe, who stared at Leo with frightening eyes, snorted.

“Anyway, you can’t get through me! So give up!” Chloe declared confidently.

“Indeed, I can’t break through this defense with just my Aura,” Leo conceded, smiling.

“In that case, I’ll rely on sorcery.”

Shwoom, crackle

‘Sorcery?’

She was taken aback.

Chloe hadn’t anticipated Leo’s use of magic at this moment.

Leo’s form split into several identical illusions.

‘An illusion spell? How mundane!’

Though caught off guard, Chloe knew how to identify the genuine article among illusions.

It was a foul to attack a player with sorcery, but you could attack any illusion created by magic.

‘Which is the real deal?’

It was a simple process for Chloe to find the person among the magical dummies.

Chloe concentrated her mana in her eyes.

Her expression tensed.

“I can’t tell which one is fake!”

She couldn’t attack until she was sure.

Yet, there was something even more startling.

‘This… This magic…’

Seizing the opportunity while Chloe was baffled, Leo swiftly scored, slotting the ball into the net.

Stunned, Chloe slumped in defeat, no trace of reaction to the goal.

It was an enchantment so perfect that it confounded reality.

Chloe was familiar with the magic Leo had used.

Yet she couldn’t replicate it herself.

Because what Leo wielded was not ordinary magic.

It was something beyond human comprehension.

Chloe stared blankly back at him.

As his illusion dissipated, the flames fluttered away.

A system of sorcery crafted from the ground up.

“The elven… Magic of the Stars?”

A mere mirage.

What Leo had used was the sorcery bestowed upon him by Luna, the Poet of the Stars.
