◈ The Saviour Embarks on a Nameless Journey
Chapter 4: Marius Club Telvan
“What happened to the temple, you bastard!?”
“I’ve retired since I’m an elderly person now, you know.”
“Don’t say that with no hesitation! It’s not something you can just do that easily!”
His words which were delivered with a suspicious smile made me retort instinctively.
“My health has been declining for around a month now, how long do you think it’s been? Goho, Goho.”
“Stop imitating a cough with a serious face like that! Or rather, that delivery tone, just stop it!”
“Please don’t arbitrarily extend my lifespan beyond the natural limits of my race.”
He frowned faintly, and conveyed his dissatisfaction in a calm voice.
That’s right, he’s that type of person…!
With 73 years of age, even when he’s grown so old, the somewhat elegant Marius is still popular among women. Since he’s from Duke Telban’s family who has royal blood mixed in, he also had a claim to the throne.
He was supposed to return home and take over, but since Shato, who’s the royal family ended up returning back too, and to not get swallowed by the needless power struggle, he ended up throwing everything behind and joining the temple. He was that type of man. In the end, his brother took over him.
“What if I decide to stay?”
“Hmm?”
“In that direction, I could only foresee a future where someone asks to see your condition in the water basin within three days. It’s a pain.”
A listless Marius said.
“……”
Isn’t the last statement disrespectful? But I, I can’t deny it!? This feels like something Lord Shation would do.
“Although it is not the journey of the demon king’s subjugation, however since it’s your ‘journey’, I can’t help but be more curious, to the point where it disrupts my business.”
“Do something about your blood relative around there. I will also deal with that person’s conduct… It really does somewhat baffle me.”
“Inconvenience is disrespectful.”
Marius thrusted with his words nonchalantly.
“You haven’t mentioned any names yet, you’re just barely saying it too!”
Your bothersome statement is even more cruel though!?
“….Oi. This is a face I’ve seen at the temple before, or is it just my imagination?”
“I was about to leave from the gate, but someone called out to me, I couldn’t see their face which was hiding behind the hood. And since I’m the one handling the horses, I could only look forward.”
“You, don’t pretend not to see! It’s definitely a big shot who slipped away and is traveling anonymously!? If I help with this, I won’t get caught right? Is this really from the ‘Oracle’?”
“It’s fine, I didn’t see anything. I didn’t know either!”
“IT’S NOT FINEEEEEEEE!”
—Somehow, the voices of the coachman and the guard, who were whispering quietly, gradually grew louder.
“Seriously, there won’t be pursuers after us, right?”
Folding my arms, I stared at Marius scornfully.
“It should be fine, probably.”
Marius laughed calmly.
“Probably? What do you mean probably!?”
“It doesn’t mean that you committed a sin after all. I left a letter and an assignment behind. If I stay up for about four days, I’ll probably run out of energy for this and give up.”
Isn’t that what you’d call a bad idea?
If I remember right, the temple’s second in command was Marquis Mycroft’s punk of a son. The so-called ‘assignment’ this man left behind as a parting gift seems quite nasty…
“Even though it is only a slight chance, but with the House of Mycroft’s involvement, this is a case where more than ten families could fall into ruin, so I’m sure he’ll do his best.”
The man in front of me, who mentioned such headache-inducing matters with ease, smiled brightly.
“Don’t tell me… you couldn’t have set this up, could you?”
“Fufu, I did make a few adjustments to light up the fuel even more, but the problem was already there, you know?”
That sly chuckle really suits him!
—It must’ve been awfully hard for his subordinate at the temple…
“I’m not worried about your stamina but, you know that we’ll be camping right? Are you sure that you, the man treasured by the temple, can endure that?”
“What are you talking about? Don’t you know that the temple teaches simplicity, frugality, diligence, and purity in service to our deity?
Marius said with a composed expression.
Yeah right. The temple’s highest ranked priest’s daily life isn’t flashy, but has been carefully selected and arranged.
Although, I’m not really worried about his stamina. Marius prides himself in his recovery and body reinforcement magic, and I know from our past journeys that his stamina won’t run out until his magic does. He was still cheerful even when close to death.
A master in both Taijutsu and Bōjutsu, Marius was the strongest of us back in those days when we first set out to defeat the demon king. However, the one who brought down the demon king was none other than the holder of Goddess Lānu’s sword, Shato. Marius took on the role of a healer because the party needed one, that’s all there is to it.
After numerous battles, Shato and I started getting stronger, but Marius was the strongest in the early stages of our journey, that’s for sure. Although Marius did significantly boost his magical abilities later on, to say the least.
“I will call Elaine sooner or later.”
“Stop! My journey was supposed to be quiet and calm, now it’s all chaotic!”
The name Marius spoke of was the fourth member of our party, and our friend. The beautiful woman was referred to as the Earth Witch, or a young lady, or a little girl, or even a man sometimes. How should I put it, she is someone who changes appearance depending on their mood, age and gender unclear, and a person you’re not sure how to handle.
Having both Marius and Elaine together would be very troublesome! The only memories I have is of them teasing and making fun of me! My peaceful journey plans are in danger…!
